Those brass screws like to break. I have carefully ground the remaining 1/2 of the broken screw head off with a dremel tool, removed the other screw and patch box. You will then be able to remove the broken screw shank with a good pair of plyers or small vice grips.

I have broken and lost many range rods over the years and the Creedmoor steel rod from Track of the Wolf is the best I have ever used.The .36 will hold up better in a breeze and will give you about 25 yards more range.
