It also uses a battery pack instead of AA batteries. The newer SDS100/200 models are basically programmed and work the same way as the 436/536 models with a few extra features. SDS100 is a good radio if you can find one available, the SDS radios are the only consumer scanners that are successful with simulcast Distortion secondary to LSM. They work great on simulcast systems while other radios will have difficulties. The port needs to supply 1A for run-only, or 2A for run + charge. If your computer can't supply 1A minimum, you need to use a powered hub. I've never had the computer try to install a new driver in the many times I've disconnected the scanner and reconnected it, (except on the original install). He said at the onset that turnaround is 3-4 weeks. I have heard from other sources besides those posting on this thread that the internal GPS and associated hardware mod works great. Functionality of this scanner is fantastic. Programming is a breeze. Handles simulcast better than any other scanner out there. Speaker could be improved but its performance is acceptable. There were some users that were seeing the keypad lock on the SDS100 actually functioning through the Sentinel software in the early versions. When I stop the SDS100 on the exact same frequency that the TRX-1 is decoding, programmed as a DMR freq., it doesn't even make a hit on the signal bar. I can't imagine the TRX-1 is that much more sensitive on DMR than the SDS100. Just received by SDS-100 was not receiving anything and was returned to Uniden. Received the unit back today and still no radio traffic. Repair that was performed was cold solder joint. Explained in my note to them have worked with radios since the 1980's. I know how to program and operate radios. There is output indicating the SDS-100 Sub-processor. If you type a lower-case ASCII charactor from a limited set (dhlmoqrwz), several lines of formatted ASCII numbers are sent from the scanner. He will be driving from the Indiana area to Southern Florida and wants to depend on the GPS to scan the nearby areas as he drives. The REM-820S is an SMA mount designed specifically for use with the SDS100. It will fully seat on the scanner, and has an o-ring to maintain the weather resistance of the scanner.
